What is a joint injection?

A joint injection involves carefully placing a small amount of medicine, usually a corticosteroid or hyaluronic acid, directly into or around a joint or soft tissue. It aims to reduce inflammation, ease pain and improve mobility, particularly in conditions such as arthritis, bursitis or tendonitis.

How much does it cost?

A joint injection consultation and procedure costs £220 for ONE joint. Knee Injection with CINGAL costs £320 in total for ONE joint.

Which joints can be treated?

Commonly treated areas include the shoulder, elbow (Tennis elbow or Golfer's elbow), hip (bursitis) and knee.

What medications are included in joint injections?

Our joint injections usually include a local anaesthetic for immediate relief and a corticosteroid to reduce inflammation. We also offer CINGAL, a single-injection treatment for knee osteoarthritis that combines hyaluronic acid and a corticosteroid for fast-acting pain relief and long-lasting joint lubrication.

How soon will I feel better, and how long will it last?

Relief from pain can start within a few days, although sometimes it may take up to a week. The benefits often last several weeks or months, depending on the underlying condition and level of activity. As a general rule steroid injections provide relief of around 3-6 months and Hyaluronic acid for 6-9 months.

Are there any risks or side effects?

Joint injections are generally safe when performed by a trained doctor. Possible side effects include temporary discomfort, local bruising, or a short-lived flare of pain. Rarely, infection or changes in skin colour can occur at the injection site. Your doctor will discuss risks and aftercare before treatment.
